Episode 5
A Horse’s Home and How to Behave Around Them
Where horses sleep, eat and shelter from the weather, and how we behave around them. Nana explains why a calm, everyday voice keeps everybody safe.
Nana takes kids on a tour of where horses live and how to behave around them. Before entering the barn, she introduces the idea of “etiquette” — staying calm, quiet, and using an everyday voice so the horses stay calm too, since even a small horse like Bernard can run, kick, and bite just like a big one. Inside, Nana explores a horse’s stall, showing that it serves as bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen all in one, and explains where hay comes from (a farm-grown grass, baled and delivered by truck) and how horses get grain and fresh water. She shows how horses can move freely between their stall and the outdoors, how a scratching post lets them relieve itches they can’t reach themselves, and how doors are adjusted to protect horses from heavy rain or freezing cold while still letting in fresh air. The episode wraps up outside in the paddock, watching the water trough get emptied, cleaned, and refilled, and finishes with a recap of everything learned: stalls, weather care, and horse etiquette.
